Setting up a guest portal for a site

Background Information

INFO

Due to increased demand for a solution to lacking reception in several myhealth centres, a solution has been devised.

This solution adds a public wifi network, requiring users to accept a terms of service agreement before they are connected.

Set up a new network for the guest wifi

Open the Network menu in the Settings tab of the site's Unifi controller and click New Virtual Network

Set the values:

  • Network Name
  • VLAN ID
  • Host Address
  • Guest Network

Click Add

Set up a new WiFi Speed Limit profile

Open the Profiles menu, select the Wifi Speed Limit tab, and click Create New

Enter a speed cap of 10/2 mbps and click Add

Set up the Hotspot Portal

Open the hotspot editor

In the leftmost tab of the settings, copy the below options

The Terms of Service is unchanged from the default at this stage

Use the latest version of the myhealth logo available, demo used

In the rightmost tab of the settings, copy the below options

Click Save

Set up the WiFi network

Click Create New in the WiFi settings menu

Apply the below settings to the wifi network

Click Add WiFi Network

Known issues
  • myhealth wifi network not working for staff

This issue is likely caused by the network being set as a guest network. If the guest portal is configured, the staff network should be set to isolated, instead of guest
