BP Outage Troubleshooting

First draft
1

Run the BP Ports Utility

This tool is located at C:\Program Files\Best Practice Software\BPS\BP Support\BP.PortsUtility.exe

Its purpose is to ensure all ports required for the operation of the application are open to the network

2

Confirm the network address of the server is correct

If necessary, confirm the IP address referenced in the registry of any client machines

This can be found in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Best Practice Software\Best Practice\Database\Server

3

Restart the SQL Server(BPSINSTANCE) service

This service runs the SQL instance used by Best Practice, and upon restarting will resolve many connection issues

4

Attempt a safe reboot of the Best Practice VM

DANGER

If the machine is completely locked up, you may be required to force reboot it

This is a last-ditch effort in the event you are unable to control the PC even from the xenadmin console

5

Escalate

Raise the issue with Neil and/or Kayne - why they volunteer for this is beyond me
